1N has chosen to work with Bethel Childcare Centre for our CSI project. We are working with K2 students. To engage them with activities that cater to their needs, we have come up with two core activities to teach them values. Ms Karen, the principal of Bethel Childcare Centre, told us that every term has a theme and Term 2’s theme is animals. Therefore, our activities are centered around animals.

Our first activity is Musical Chairs.

This is an accurate timeline of what will be happening:

  1. Firstly, there will be ten chairs laid out in a circle, with pictures of animals pasted on them a piece of felt will be pasted on the chair to cover the animal

  2. There will be music playing (Shakers will be used to create sounds).

  3. The children are to walk in a circle as music is being played.

  4. Once the music stops, they have get a seat. They are to flip open the felt and reveal the animal. They have to name the animal pasted on the chair (All of the children would be given shakers even if they lose or get the question wrong.) the winner will be given a sticker and a shaker( They can write their name on the shakers )[11 minutes]

  5. After each round, one chair will be removed.

  6. They game ends when there is only one chair left, and there is a winner( who is also given a shaker) The game might also end earlier due to time constraints if any.

  7. Debrief [4 minutes]

The second core activity is a fusion of two activities that two groups (now merged) have come up with. The involve solving animal-related riddles and arts and crafts activities to improve their cognitive skills.

This is an outline of how the game works:

  1. Briefing and instructions [4 minutes]

  2. Actual Game [9 minutes]

  3. Game procedures:

  • Three animal soft toys with envelopes in front of them will be placed in front of the children as MCQ choices

  • Students will be in groups of 7/8, total 3 groups

Step 1:

  • There will be 3 tables, 1 for each riddle, and 2 students at each table. Each group will be at each station. 1 child from each group will go up to the table

  • At the table, the Cedarians will read the riddle out to the child. The child will have to solve the riddle and take the envelope in front of the animal choice they have chosen.

  • Each envelope will contain: 1 token and 1 sticker.

  • Upon completion of the riddle, the children can proceed to the dispenser where they will use their token to collect materials for the next part of the activity. They will also be able to use the sticker given for the next activity.

4. The children are to follow the instructions given by the Cedarian stationed behind the dispenser.

  • Instructions:

  1. Please insert your token into the slot on the bottom right hand side of the machine

  2. Please pick a paper of your choice

  3. Turn the knob

  4. Please pick an animal in the box that starts with the letter___

  5. Please put the animal on the knob you just turned

  6. Turn the knob again

  7. Here is your paper!

  8. Do you need any extra materials?

  9. If you need any extra materials, please turn the knob of your chosen material

5. The children would be given the materials (paper, pencil, paper plate or glue) they have asked for and proceed to a designated area.
