Our class is serving the NTUC Silver Circle elderly care centre for our IPW project. The NTUC Silver Circle is a day care centre for the elderly who do not have family members at home to take care of them in the day. Often, the elderly at the centre might feel lonely as their family members might be at work, so the goal of our IPW project is to bring happiness to them and take their mind off their families for a while. Our group worked hand in hand with the organisation while we planned the activities which we would carry out. The day care centre had an existing timetable which we modified to include the activities which we have come up with. We also asked the organisation what other volunteers might have done in the past and what activities they carried out, to get a feel of how our project will turn out when we visit the silver circle in May. Other than activities such as bingo, arts and crafts and mass exercise, we have arranged for performances by our group members while the elderly are having breakfast, such as violin and piano performances!
